BIOGRAPHY OF FR. GERALD
He was born on June 13, 1965 (Feast of St. Anthony of Padua) to Adriano B. Metal and Victoria E. Glorioso in Quezon City. He spent his infancy in Trabajo, Sampaloc, Manila until the family moved with a sister, Grace and a brother, Jonjon in Cubao, Quezon City in 1968. His fourth brother was born there.
He started schooling in Camp Crame as a nursery pupil with his sister who was just four years old and him being five. At six, Gerald stepped to grade one in Ponciano Bernardo Elementary School, just a few step from the Metal residence. He entered High School at Trinity College of Quezon City at E. Rodriguez (near ST. LukeÂ’s Hospital). He was then affiliated with a group of boys belonging to the Youth Marian Crusade (YMC) in which he discovered his vocation. After High School in 1981, after he confirmed GodÂ’s calling with Pope John Paul IIÂ’s visit in the same year. He entered the Rogationist Fathers in Paranaque.
From 1981 to 1984, he travelled with other seminarians from Fr. Hannibal Formation House to the University of Santo Tomas where he studied his philosophical studies. He finished cum laude, licentiate in philosophy in 1985. On this year he was an intern, serving every week in the parish of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary in Montalban, where he met Fr. Chiqui Manalo, the parish priest. It was here when he was exposed to the Charismatic Renewal Movement.
He participated in the EDSA People Power revolution in 1986. In that year he discerned whether to pursue his vocation by making a bicycle pilgrimage to Antipolo, from Trabaho Market where his mom was maintaining a stall to St. Jude Church in Manila. He passed by Malacanang where the Marcoses have lived and went to the Church of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage. He was about to give up when at the last minute, Bishop Protacio Gungon sent him to Tagaytay to study Theology there. Fr. Gilbert Urubio, the seminary rector accepted him in Tahanan ng Mabuting Pastol in Tagaytay without having yet submitted the requirements and having passed the exams. Nevertheless, he was able to hurdle obstacles and he was able to enter the Divine Word Theology School in Tagaytay, just across from Tahanan ng Mabuting Pastol. He finished Magna Cum Laude in Theology.
He was ordained deacon on December 8, 1990 at the Cathedral in Antipolo by Bishop Protacio Gungon and was ordained to the priesthood on November 9, 1991.
After Ordination he was transferred to Our Lady of the Abandoned in Marikina under Fr. Henry Mediarito.
He was transferred to Our Lady of Aranzazu in 1993 under Fr. Arnel Lagarejos
In 1995 he was moved to Saint Clement Parish in Angono, Rizal.
In 1996 he was assigned as Substitute Priest in Santo Tomas de Vllanueva in Santolan, Pasig for Fr. Fred Ganzon.
In 1997 he had series of assignments as substitute priest in Greenpark, Pasig (Sto. Niño Parish) / Manggahan (Sta Lucia Parish) / Teresa (Saint Rose of Lima Parish) until he was assigned as assistant to Fr. Jovie Nepomuceno in San Ildefonso Parish (Tanay Rizal)
On July 28, 1998 he received a communication assigning hem as pastor of our newly erected Quasi Parish of San Jose Ampid.
He formally took the chapel turned into a church on August 19, 2000 until the present time. Let us pray for him that the Lord will continue to guide his way in the ministry.
