24 doves released in the celebration of the life of Doug Cavel

After singing "Oh Canada" at the Parksville Canada Day ceremonies,

Jessie released a white dove, followed by a flock in celebration of Canada's birthday.

On Nov 2, 2009, a flock of white doves was released as the Olympic Torch passed through

the community in front of the Bowser Legion. The first dove was released by

John Lyotier, in memory of his wife Barb. Six teenagers from the area then released 6 doves,

symbolizing the Olympic motto - "Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger)

and our wishes for the future - " Peace, Unity and Love".These were followed by a flock of 14 dovesrepresenting the community.

The combined flock created a "21 Dove Salute" from the flag pole at the Bowser Legion

to the spirit of the 2010 Olympics.

On Jan 25 2009 we said goodbye to a dear friend, Mike Keller
