Setting-up diagram :
This type of setting-up suits in the shunting zones in station or in industrial parks isolated far from a station. For access roads toward a private installation, we propose the plan at the bottom of this page.
Description :
A SNCF signal 'G' is placed upstream to the junction (1). It is followed by a SNCF invisible square (2). A 'SNCF signal target diverted' is also set up.
A simple signal G' (KUID 201472 : 632 by Pber007) and a speed board 20 km/h (KUID 523 : 100886) may be placed at the beginning of the zone as a reminder.
Downstream to the junction of the shunting zone, purple squares protect the access to the main way. A signal of resumption "R" (KUID 201472: 656) along with a speed board (visible or not) will also be implanted to authorize the speed of service for the outgoing consists.
We shall not also forget to protect the junction downstream but on the main way this time, with a square, preceded possibly by a diamond of warning.
If the shunting zone is located between two stations, and within the framework of the system of manual block (no more than one train between every station), the placement of a semaphore in exit of zone is useless.
If the shunting zone is in a station, and if its exit also corresponds to the exit of the station, a semaphore must be positioned to specify so the way is clear up to the next station. In this case also, we shall not forget the signal 'LM' (limit of shunt) which willl be placed at a certain distance of the junction.
Functioning :
When the junction is diverted toward the shunting zone, the target 'G' is presented.
Nota Bene : the signal 'G' acts as signal of announcement and remote warning. It is thus optional for the shunting zones located in station.
Particular cases of the private or isolated branches with occasional traffic :
From a junction located in main track, such a branch can lead to an industrial installation, a mine... In that case, entries and exits from the zone are the object of telephone communications between the agent maneuvering the junction and the station situated upstream. There is thus no protection insured by panels. On the other hand, and in the case of the manual block, semaphores situated by part and the others of the block remains closed as long as the way is not cleared.
A simple signal 'G' (KUID 201472 : 632) and a speed board of 20 km/h (KUID 523 : 100886) are placed at the beginning of the zone. In exit, besides the signal of resumption of speed "R" (not represented), we shall place a signal " DD " (KUID 201472: 647) accompanied with the object 'Telephone' The signal " LM " is banned, no operation in main track is authorized outside stations.
