John Bruner
(413) 559-5326
It is a great joy and an honor to offer my services to ShatterKind Productions as Director and Executive Producer. I take on these roles not because of any overwhelming degree of experience in these regards but so as to facilitate Hampshire Students who are part of this ongoing workshop in a way that allows them to learn new skills.
John's production experiences range from sound recordist on such feature films as Peace One Day, Under the Bed and All American Boy to technical director for events like Sarah Sherman's Electra! and Internet Comes to Main Street for the City of Northampton. John also does postproduction work and has lent his editing talents to Grasping the Sparrow's Tail a Tai ji Documentary and The Captivation of Eunice Williams and has done soundtrack work for The New Mother and Incident at Tower 37.
He has done numerous commercial works for clients as well known as Budweiser, AT&T, Scholastic Theater and Sheraton Hotels International. John is currently happy to report that he has made Faculty Associate of Interdisciplinary Arts at Hampshire College where he is 12 year Digital Media Specialist and currently staff Media Lab manager of the Library.
In his off time John enjoys, drumming, kayaking, hiking, reading (currently The Director At Work by R. Benedetti). He keeps a vegetable garden at his Easthampton home (when the season permits) and is currently adapting P.G. Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster to a stageplay.
Ben Goldsmith
Assistant Director
Sometimes known as Benjamin Ausmith, Ben likes to use computers to make things. His primary interests are storytelling, narrative cinema, digital generations and manipulations of images and sounds, and at his best, he's combining all of these things at once. Ben is notorious on the Hampshire campus for his somewhat controversial ThunderFuck movies, but lately, he's slowing the pace down and concentrating on more dramatic narratives. Less blood and guns. More inner conflict. That sort of thing. If you were to ask him about his Div III, he would give you a vague answer involving the words memories, dreams, the Midwest, and lightning strike survivor support groups. No one is really sure what this means, or if Ben completely understands it himself.
Ben is pretty amped to be part of ShatterKind, and it is his hope that this group will be a home to narrative filmmakers at Hampshire for years to come.
Michael Charalampidis
Cinematographer
Michael Charalampidis or Michail is an international student from Greece. His main interests are writing and directing for film and theater, but as long as the work is creative and productive, he is willing to participate in anything. Michael has made short action movies in Greece. With support from his family, he filmed and edited many action videos with his siblings and cousins. Among Michael’s strengths are editing music videos, action sequences and trailers. Other than that, he enjoys writing fiction novels and is currently working on his third book.
Right now Michael is trying to get involved in a more collaborative and stylized film and that is why he is very excited to be a main member of Shatterkind. His biggest hope is to see Shatterkind become a narrative filmmaking group that will last for many years.
Richard F. X. Moran
Lighting Designer/Gaffer
Richard Moran is set to graduate from Hampshire College in May 2011, with a degree in Storytelling Through Different Media. Primarily interested in writing and directing narrative movies, Moran learned basic artistic and technical skills by making and editing faux “trailers” and other comedic shorts. Last spring, Richard adapted The Epic of Gilgamesh into a 35-minute, quirky, classic-rock filled children’s movie, utilizing stop motion special effects, a medium he intends to pursue further. Moran recently wrote, directed, produced and edited “The Wind Eagle’s Nest” a 40-minute comedy about three young hikers trying to climb a mountain in winter.
Moran has also written two feature length scripts, choreographed fight scenes, and acted in several student films, including his own. An outdoors enthusiast, Richard’s films often involve on-location shooting with little to crew, so being a part of Shatterkind is a very exciting oportunity. He has greatly enjoyed working on such a collaborative project and looks forward to working in a more controlled setting with a stylized aesthetic.
Jessica Rather
Line Producer
Jessica Rather does not enjoy talking in the third person, so... I am currently
a Hampshire College second year film student. I am primarily seen as a
cinematographer, however, as Conrad Hall once said, "I am more than a
cinematographer. I'm a filmmaker." My primary interest are in producing,
directing, cinematography, and sound design.
Within the last year I have been working full time at a local record shop called
“Turn It Up.” By working in this particular man pit, I have been able to get to
know six individuals; Josh, Chris, Roger, Ian, Sean, and Mike. There is
something really intriguing about these good looking quirky men working at a
record store. But, what is it? As a result of my own infatuation, I have spent
the last decade creating a short stop motion animation that morphs each man's
uniqueness into a superhero power. The end result is my own spin on
“Thunderbirds” and Turn It Up, called “Maneaters.”
With my background in camera operating with WGBY, editing/art design with
Hatchling and taking on the role of line producer for Shatterkind, I plan on
perusing my dreams of filmmaking out west.
