The course is primarily designed for graduate students (as a stepping stone to advanced courses in microeconomic theory) especially those aiming to sit for the CFA exam.
The course provides the students with the micro-economic theories and analytic tools needed to be able to understand the functioning of markets and the eff.ects of economic policies on market interactions.
The main focus of the program is the application of economic principles in guiding policy decisions especially in cases where markets fail to achieve e.ciency.
Various grounds for government intervention such as public goods, externalities, imperfect competition and asymmetric information, are examined. The course also explores theories related to effi.ciency and equity in competitive markets as well as government failure and social choice .
