Book Summary and Pitch
Here you will provide a brief summary of the novel. A summary is a CONCISE RETELLING of important MAIN IDEAS or INFORMATION regarding the story or text. Follow the paragraph format below.
A. How will you get your reader’s attention, or “hook” them, into reading your about your book? Refer to your hook handout for ideas. B. Summarize the book’s plot or key points of information. Logically include these details somewhere in your summary:

· Genre and total number of pages
· Setting (time and place)
· Main character(s)—protagonist(s) and antagonist(s)
· Main conflict
· Main events that occur or important information
C. Conclude with a pitch that convinces your audience to read the book.
· Pose a question.
· Make a convincing statement including the best reason why readers would enjoy this book.
· Reflect on what you loved about the book, and use it to conclude.
Book Reaction and Rating
In this section express your reaction to the book and provide a rating for future readers. Be honest and critical in your review of the book.
First, do some BRAINSTORMING to reflect on your overall experience reading the novel.
· On a scale of one to five stars, with one being an awful read and five being a fantastic read, how would you rate your reading enjoyment of the book? Explain considering the questions below.
· What did you enjoy about the book? Was it interesting, memorable, entertaining, or instructive? What did the author do well to tell the story or to convey information? Did it challenge your thinking or point of view?
· What made the book difficult to read or to enjoy? What suggestions do you have to improve the book?

Character Analysis
This section will be used to describe and analyze the main character. A character analysis is a close study, or examination, of the character to better understand his/her motivations and actions.

· Think about your overall impressions of your character. What is he/she like? What are some of his/her most interesting/meaningful/significant personality traits? Why?

Significant Passage
Locate a passage from the book that you consider to be important. Often, this passage will be tied to one or more of the novel’s themes or reoccurring ideas (motifs). Cite the text and explain your rationale, or thinking, regarding why it’s important. Remember to show, not tell, with specific, convincing, details.
