HOW DO WE HELP OUR NEIGHBORS?

The Southport Island Association offers educational grants to Southport students (K - 12) who wish to explore their world through extracurricular educational opportunities. Small financial grants are available to help fund trips, special projects or summer programs that enhance positive learning experiences.

Southport residents over 18 who need a “leg up” are eligible to apply for grants to help defray the cost of special programs, continuing education, vocational/job training or special school programs that lay outside of a regular academic curriculum. Assistance to meet the costs associated with the ability to apply or attend a course or obtain a job will also be considered, ie, transportation issues, proper clothing, internet access and other tech related obstacles.

The Island Association also offers assistance to Southport residents experiencing extraordinary financial hardships related, but not limited, to job loss, medical bills, family disruption, or an unexpected calamity that negatively impacts economic stability.

Applications for these 3 programs are available at the Southport Post Office, the Southport Town Hall, through counselors at the Boothbay Region and Southport Central Schools, the Methodist Church or by contacting Carole Zalucky at czalucky@gmail.com or 207-841-0577. Applications will be available at other locations as offices reopen to normal traffic in the coming months.
