Motherland Re-discovered

March 2013

A few days after I arrived from Asia, a new trip idea started to unfold. It just so happened that my mother was busily preparing for her annual visit to Ukraine. Upon learning of this imminent journey, I felt an itch, and then a nostalgic urge to go back to the places of my childhood, to see the village where I spent my summers… high school, old movie theaters…in short, to re-discover the place where I grew up and to see more of the ‘motherland’.

And so I hung up my flip flops, dusted off my winter coat and was Ukraine bound.

Where it all began 32 years ago. Shepetovka, Ukraine.
