Hair transplantation is the only effective method for treatment of complete hair loss (baldness) in men.
General principles of hair loss treatment with hair transplantation in men:
It is important to understand that male hair loss is in itself progressive and irreversible. We are born with a finite number of hair follicles and once they cease production of hair, that process is programmed to not resume. So, it is important to be conservative when you correct your hair loss because the early phase of hair loss eventually progress to severe one with age. The fact that we have a finite number of hair also very important. For a young and early phase of hair loss patient, we should consider one's elderly ages in a view point of hair line and the distribution.
Our clinic have done hair restoration surgery for years successfully with conventional strip method. We do strip method because of its promising success and stably established method so it is still regarded best method in hair restoration sugery especially for male pattern baldness. For male pattern baldness, transplanted hairs varies from 2,500 to 5,000, usually from 3,000 to 3,500. The number of transplanted hairs depends primarily on donor site hair density so it varies among patients. The average numbers are from Korean people so it may more or less for the others.
Male pattern baldness is a gradual conversion of hairs from the terminal (healthy, thick) to a vellus (clear, tiny) state.Typical progression of hair loss in men (Norwood stages or classification):
Mild hair loss: type 1-2
Moderate hair loss: type 3-5
Over time these recessions become larger and much more noticeable, and the hairline moves further back.
Severe hair loss:type 6-7
The final stage is when the hair is lost completely from the crown and frontal region, and leaving the familiar horse shoe shape.
