OCLC Macros for Cyrillic Fields in Authority Records

A macro "GenerateAuthoritySupplNLat" is available to help with the addition of Cyrillic fields in authority records in OCLC Connexion. It was created by Hideyuki Morimoto (Columbia University), and modified by Joel Hahn, then of Arlington Heights Library (Chicago). This macro creates an authority record with a variant access point in Cyrillic script from an authorized access point in a Connexion bibliographic record. The macro is available at Joel Hahn's Macros for the Connexion Client and can be downloaded into Connexion either through zipped or plain macrobook files.

To use the macro, begin with parallel Cyrillic and Latin script fields in the OCLC bibliographic record. Please note that the macro only works with linked headings where the non-Latin script field is immediately above the Latin script field. Place your cursor in the Latin alphabet field for the authorized access point. It could be a 1XX, 6XX, 7XX, or 8XX field. Run the macro, and it will create an authority record with the romanized heading in the 1XX field and a 4XX field in Cyrillic script. Please note that the parallel field in Cyrillic will be only supplied for the authorized form of heading. The macro also supplies the 4XX field in Latin script for fuller form of name from the subfield ǂq. It populates the 670 field with the information coming from the 245 (subfields ǂa and ǂc), 260 (all subfields), 490 and 8XX fields. It will also create the 667 field "Non-Latin script reference(s) not evaluated" and set the Ref Status in fixed fields to "b."

Please note that the 264 field is currently not indexed in this macro, so prior to running the macro, it is necessary to change the field 264 to 260, and after the authority record is created, to change it back.

If a parallel field in Cyrillic script in the bibliographic record includes data in Latin script, the Latin data should be manually edited before running the macro, in order to avoid editing in the authority record(s). However, double checking and manual editing still could be necessary in some cases, for example, when running a macro for authorized access points for corporate bodies with qualifiers. Information on names of corporate bodies is usually recorded in notes or in the publication field of bibliographic records, and therefore the forms of names present in these fields will not be supplied in the newly created authority record. Since the macro generates a parallel heading in Cyrillic script in the subfield ǂb of the 670 from the parallel field in Cyrillic in the bibliographic record, and not on the basis of how it appears on the resource, it may need to be corrected.
