Multiple Contributors
Sometimes, especially in the case of aggregate works, when a work lacks author/authors responsible for the content as a whole, multiple other contributors appear not on the title page but somewhere else on a resource, usually on the title page verso or colophon. Some of them, such as authors of separate articles, editors and compilers, play important roles in the creation of a resource, and others do not.
In Russian/Soviet/Eastern European publishing practices, contributors, as well as their titles and functions in relation to a resource, can present some challenges for the cataloger. A “redaktor”, “glavnyĭ redaktor” or “sostavitelʹ” in Slavic or Central Asian publishing may not correspond exactly to terms such as “editor”, “chief editor” or “compiler” used in Western publications. The cataloger should be aware of this difference and try to determine the true meaning of such terms in relation to a particular resource.
This chapter is designed to help to determine which contributors are important and should be traced in a record, and which are not important and should be left out.
Each case should be treated individually, but here are some suggestions based on RDA instructions, the FRBR concept of relationships between a resource and its creator/creators, and common sense.
RDA 2.4.1.6 More Than One Statement of Responsibility
If there is more than one statement of responsibility, record the statements in the order indicated by the sequence, layout, or typography of the source of information from which the corresponding title, edition, or series information is taken.
LC-PCC PS for 20.2.1.3 Recording Contributors
PCC practice: Record contributors if they are considered important for identification.
RDA 19.3.1.3 Recording Other Persons, Families, and Corporate Bodies Associated with a Work
Record other persons, families, and corporate bodies associated with the work if considered important for access.
Scenario A.
Several authors and an editor appear on the title page verso.
Kоллектив авторов:
Л. [TRACE], Болтинова О. В.
Ю. Грачева [TRACE]
Suggested cataloging treatment: trace the first author, plus the editor.
245 10 … / ǂc kollektiv avtorov, Arzumanova L.L. [and five others] ; otvetstvennyĭ
redaktor professor E.I︠U︡. Gracheva.
100 1 Arzumanova, L. L. ǂq (Lana L′vovna), ǂe author.
700 1 Gracheva, E. I︠U︡., ǂe editor.
In this case, the resource is a collaboration between five authors. Only the first author, L.L. Arzumanova, need be named in the statement of responsibility (and traced), per RDA 2.4.1.5: If a single statement of responsibility names more than three persons, families, or corporate bodies performing the same function (or with the same degree of responsibility), omit any but the first of each group of such persons, families, or bodies.
Optionally, a cataloger may trace all collaborating authors.
The name of the editor, E. I︠U︡. Gracheva, appears very prominently, signaling that her role in editing this resource, written by different people, could be a very important one. Therefore, it is recorded as an access point with the relationship designator “editor”.
Scenario B.
Several editors, including the main editor, and other contributors like reviewer (ret︠s︡enzent), translator of some text, graphic designer, etc., appear on the title page verso.
Pэдактары

[DO NOT TRACE]
[DO NOT TRACE]
978-9856-138-044
Suggested cataloging treatment: trace only the editor who is given prominence by being called “chief editor” or “editor in charge” (otvetstvennyĭ, holovnyĭ, glavnyĭ, vidpovidalʹnyĭ, otgovoren, adkazny, glavni, odgovorni, etc.)
DO NOT TRACE the reviewer, graphic designer, or translator of some text.

(adkazny rėdaktar) ; peraklad sloŭnika Mikola Khaŭstovich.
700 1 Soŭsʹ, Hanna, ǂe editor.
Scenario C.
Compiler and several editors appear on the title page verso.
DO NOT TRACE]
Suggested cataloging treatment: trace the “compiler” only.
Optionally, a cataloger may choose to trace the first named of the editors, or even all editors.
In this case none of the editors appears more prominently on the title page verso. The term “съставител” (compiler) that appears in connection with Vŭlo Ivanov is a classic case where the Eastern European term for “compiler” does not fit well with the RDA definition.
RDA, Appendix I.2: compiler A person, family, or corporate body responsible for creating a new work (e.g., a bibliography, a directory) by selecting, arranging, aggregating, and editing data, information, etc. For a compiler as a contributor, see editor.
The RDA definition for editor is the correct one to use for the responsibility that Vŭlo Ivanov had in this publication: editor A person, family, or corporate body contributing to an expression of a work by revising or clarifying the content, or by selecting and putting together works, or parts of works, by one or more creators. Contributions may include adding an introduction, notes, or other critical matter, or preparing the expression of a work for production, publication, or distribution.
Since Vŭlo Ivanov is responsible for selecting and putting together the resource, he should be treated as an editor, in RDA terms, and not a compiler, despite the fact that his function is translated literally as “compiler” in English.
245 00 … / ‡c sŭstavitel, Vŭlo Ivanov ; redaktori, Vŭlo Ivanov, Ivan Filchev, Georgi Karamanev.
700 1 Ivanov, Vŭlo, ǂe editor.
“Redaktor” as copy editor:
Catalogers should be keenly aware of the need to interpret correctly the term “redaktor” when it appears in the colophon. Although it implies full credit as the editor of a resource, in most cases “redaktor” when it appears in the colophon refers to the “copy editor” or “editor/official of the publishing house” who oversaw the publication process of the book. Along with the editor’s name, the names of the “korrektor” (copy editor) and persons responsible for “verstka/kompʹi︠u︡ternyĭ nabor” (computer design) might appear in the colophon. These persons should not be recorded in the statement of responsibility nor should they be traced.
Example:
Colophon:
