Different Forms of Names Found in Item
In publications from Russia, the former Soviet Union, and Eastern Europe, very often the same resource will include several forms of the same name that can be found in the colophon, title page verso, CIP information, preliminaries and text itself. When determining the preferred form of name for a person, corporate body or a meeting, use the following sources (in order of preference):
the preferred sources of information in resources associated with the person -- usually the title page and its substitutes
other formal statements appearing in resources associated with the person
other sources (including reference sources)

The chapter on Personal Names in the NACO Participants' Manual instructs catalogers to "record all forms of the name found on the chief source of the item being cataloged. Be selective about citing forms of the name not on the chief source. Record only those judged to add important information about the name (such as a fuller form) or those that justify cross-references”.
Since many Eastern Slavic personal names are quite common, and they usually appear on the chief source of information in abbreviated form (for example, last name and initial(s)), it is very important to always provide full forms of names with patronymics in the authorized access point, even when there is no need to distinguish between names. Fuller forms of names usually can be found in the colophon.
Record other variant names and variant forms of the name as variant access points. Use information in variant forms of names if needed for constructing the authorized access point.
