Change of Place of Publication in Series Titles with Geographic Qualifiers

This chapter discusses how to deal with a change in publishing location for a series using the name of that location as a qualifier in its preferred title.

LC-PCC PS for 6.27.1.9 Serials 4b (Place used as addition to authorized access point) stipulates that: If the series "moves" to another city, do not create a new record. Add information about the change in place of publication.

Example (in MARC format):

Two different series are distinguished by city of publication.

130 0 Sovremennai︠a︡ biblioteka (Moscow, Russia)

130 0 Sovremennai︠a︡ biblioteka (Tomsk, Russia)

Suppose that, at a certain point in time, the series previously published in Tomsk “moves” and is henceforth published in Novosibirsk. In that case, the qualifier for the authorized access point (Tomsk, Russia) does not change but the new city of publication (Novosibirsk, Russia) is added as a variant access point.

130 0 Sovremennai︠a︡ biblioteka (Tomsk, Russia)

430 0 Sovremennai︠a︡ biblioteka (Novosibirsk, Russia)

643 Tomsk ǂb Tomskiĭ gosudarstvennyĭ universitet ǂd 1985-2009

643 Novosibirsk ǂb Novosibirskiĭ gosudarstvennyĭ universitet ǂd 2010-

667 Published in Tomsk, 1985-2009; in Novosibirsk from 2010.
