Authorized Access Points for Saint Petersburg


The name of the city and thus the authorized access point has changed several times. When the city is needed as a qualifier, use one of the forms below.

1703-1914: Sankt-Peterburg--Authorized access point: Saint Petersburg (Russia)

1914-1924: Petrograd--Authorized access point: Petrograd (R.S.F.S.R.)

1924-1991: Leningrad--Authorized access point: Leningrad (R.S.F.S.R.)

Sept. 6, 1991- : Sankt-Peterburg--Authorized access point: Saint Petersburg (Russia)


When used as a geographic qualifier, the latest form of the name current during the existence of the corporate body or work should be used.

Example (in MARC format):

110 2 T︠S︡entralʹnyĭ nauchno-issledovatelʹskiĭ geologo-razvedochnyĭ institut (Leningrad, R.S.F.S.R.) [this body existed only in the 1930s, when the name of the city was Leningrad]
