See also the page Submit article manuscript for general submission instructions.
Columns generally appear only in regular issues, not thematic ones.
The distinction between items for columns and items for the Articles section is not hard and fast. If you are not sure where your submission belongs, send it to Jon and he and the appropriate column editor will discuss it. If your submission is substantial, Jon may ask if you would like it to be peer reviewed. All peer-reviewed material appears in the Articles section. Both column pieces and articles are indexed.
Unless noted otherwise below, please observe the Submit article manuscript for originality, style, manuscript preparation, and preparation of illustrations. Submissions intended for columns can be shorter than article length.
