When you enter a cat show the show halls can be large (an arena) or it can be small. No matter the location, you will find people who love their cats and cannot wait to show them off! Cats are in show cages as you see in the tables below and are handled only by the owners and the judges. Exhibitioners will be thoughtful about not having people touch the cats and kittens in the show hall. As you walk through a cat show, be sure to check out the decorations and vote for your favorite kitty!
If you notice in this show ring there are white and blue ribbons (right). These ribbons mean the cat has been judged. Blue means best of division and white means best of color. Once all cats have been judged, then the best of the breed will be determined. Black is best of breed and orange/yellow is second best of breed. Later, after all of the long hair breeds have been examined a final will be called as you see below.
Cats are carried to the rings by the owners and placed in a clean cage identified by a number on top that corresponds to each cat in the show hall. Blue is for boy cats and pink is for girl cats. Colors are important because boy cats cannot be next to other boy cats. The judges will go in order of the numbers in the breed class and each cat will be placed on a table at the center of the ring to be handled by the judge.

Showing cats is quite an experience! We would love to help you try showing your own cat. It does not have to be a Maine Coon. You can show any cat that you own and the House Hold Pet class is extra fun and they even let the audience judge! The House Hold Pet class is for non-registered cats and kittens. It is ultimately about how friendly and personable is your cat and do they like attention!
