Well after a couple days of touring and very little sleep, our group headed off to the hospital to start doing some cardiac surgery. I've been in the ICU and so my work starts when there's (the operation) finishes. The people here are so friendly. You have to kiss the whole team on the cheek in greeting in morning rounds! I think I should introduce that in Canada when I go back. The doctors here are very knowledgeable and seem limited mostly by lack of equipment that works, and having to work with old drugs that we no longer use in north america. So far so good though, or in Spanish "mas or menos bien!".
When the ICU is quiet and waiting for surgery to finish we slip out in groups to shop in the local markets. It's fun to bargain in spanish! Their crafts are so amazing. They seem to be able to make anything!
I raided the peruvian chocolate shop yesterday so I am now a very happy camper!! Getting ready for 2 long days coming up with some very sick patients.
Wish us luck!
