EES Course Information

By definition, earth science is the scientific study of the natural world and how it is influenced by people.  Our introductory “What is EES” lesson introduces students to the concept of the interrelatedness of all of the Earth’s spheres with each other, with us as humans, and  in the context of overlapping the sciences with the humanities.

The goal of the course is to

1.examine patterns and processes in the natural world

2.look at how these patterns & processes are modified by human activity

3.consider the sustainability of these human activities on the planet

The course consists of seven earth science units that weave the human-interaction piece of environmentalism into each one. Each unit begins with a HOOK VIDEO that is designed to engage and capture the interest of students by way of real-world issues facing the planet today. The units progress with diverse lectures, hands-on labs that practice real-world skills, and digital reflection activities. The final activity for the unit is to consider and evaluate possible job opportunities within the given field by means of a survey with corresponding extension links.
