JSEALS SPECIAL PUBLICATIONS

The goal of JSEALS special publications is to share collections of linguistics articles, such as select papers from conferences or other special research agendas, as well as to offer a way for linguistic researchers in the greater Southeast Asian region to publish monograph-length works.

JSEALS Special Publication No. 1 (2017)

Chapter update: Here is a substantive update of the article "Classifying Old Rapa: Linguistic Evidence for Contact Networks in Southeast Polynesia" by Mary Walworth. The primary source consulted for the Mangaian data no longer contains many of the data points used for the analysis of shared origin between Old Rapa and Mangaian languages. As a result, the conclusion that Old Rapa and Mangaian are directly related is no longer valid. The updated version of this paper no longer includes any of the original data that is no longer reported in the Mangaia Dictionary Online. Additionally, this updated version no longer reports that Mangaian shares direct ancestry with Old Rapa, and simply concludes that it is a participatory member in the proposed Southeastern Polynesian contact network.
