This is my 1967 Pontiac LeMans convertible.
When I left for college in Galveston I left my first car (1971 LeMans) with my parents in Fort Worth. I didn't want to expose her to the ravages of ocean salt spray, especially when I didn't have a garage. After college, I started looking for another car. I still didn't have a garage, so I needed one with a less-than-perfect finish. And I wanted something I could work on myself, so that meant something old. And it had to be a convertible. And it had to have style. I was already pretty familiar with LeMans restoration, so why not another...?
I found this car in Friendswood. She was in pretty rough shape with many incorrect parts installed (or, in some cases, correct parts installed incorrectly), but that just made her all the more fun to restore. Finding replacement parts (especially for the engine) was quite a challenge, because there just aren't that many old LeManses still running around out there. When I rebuilt the engine I had some people try to convince me to take the easy way out and exchange the rare 326 for the more plentiful (and more powerful) Pontiac 400 or 455, but then the car wouldn't be "factory original" (something that's important to me).
