San Diego Annual Japanese Speech Contest

Good afternoon San Diego Region 22nd Japanese Speech Contest organizers, students and supporters. My name is Yuichiro Tanaka, vice consul at the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles. Thank you for inviting me to today’s event.

Best wishes to today’s contestants, who are not native Japanese speakers, and have worked very hard in their studies to cultivate their Japanese language skills to such a high level. Today’s speech contest is a great opportunity to show the fruits of your hard work and to make good memories that you will remember for many years to come.

My hope is that the contestants will continue to improve their Japanese skills and become young ambassadors that connect Japan and the U.S. in whatever field they pursue.

Please allow me to acknowledge Ms. Fumiko Tachibana, chair of the San Diego Japanese Speech Contest Committee, for her hard work, along with others who helped organize the contest, and my fellow judges. Best wishes for the continued success of the San Diego Japanese Speech Contest and its contestants!

日本語を母国語としない皆さんが、日頃から日本語の学習に励み、日本語能力を高めておられることを心から応援いたします。これまでの練習の成果を十分に発揮され、本日のスピーチコンテストが、皆さんに一生の良い思い出となるよう願っています。

今後も益々ご自分達の日本語に磨きをかけ、日米両国を繋ぐヤング・アンバサダーとして各分野でご活躍いただけることを願っています。
