2_2 Carlo is Back! Thank you Minasan!

Carlo, the winner of 2019 contest and the trip to Japan, had an amazing time with a host family in Sapporo then in Odate, Akita, where he exchanged a great time with local students, at all levels. He was warmly-welcomed Thank you Minasan, and had several occasions to teach English! ^_^/

Carlo's Report:

Although it was short (5/27〜6/3), I had an amazing time at Sapporo thanks to the wonderful hospitality and the kindness that the Ouchi family showed me during my stay. The meals that they cooked for me each day were delicious. My room was also incredibly spacious and comfortable. Whenever I traveled alone to popular tourist destinations such as Hokkaido Shrine, I found it extremely helpful when they showed me which stations I should go to. They showed me around beautiful places such as Moere-Numa Park and treated me to a delicious Jingisukan restaurant located within the famous Sapporo Beer Museum. One of the most fun experiences I had during my stay was when the family taught me how to make handmade Soba. I enjoyed many fun conversations with the family and they taught me many things about life and culture of Sapporo. Thanks to the Ouchi family, I grew to love Sapporo and I am really looking forward to the day I can come back and visit again.

Odate, Akita

[The second week was made possible thanks to: Odate City Board of Education, Akita Prefecture, Superintendent Mr. Takahashi, Supervisor Ms. Yamamoto, Mr. and Mrs. Igarashi, Carlos host family, President of Odate Community Center, Ms. Yumiko Noro of Odate Miyanomori Shinmei Kodomo-en (大館宮の杜神明こども園), and many others in Odate City, a homeland of famous faithful dog Hachikoハチ公 ]

I spent a week in Odate (6/3〜6/10), a city located within the northern side of the Akita prefecture. The homestay family that took care of me were very generous and provided me with delicious meals and a comfortable room. I was honestly blown away with their treatment and it really felt like I was a member of the family.

I was given the opportunity to visit the local elementary and middle schools. The staff at the school set up a special schedule for me to observe the classes and interact with the students. The students I met were exceptionally courteous and it was clear that the staff was doing their utmost to accommodate for me.

My homestay family also took me to one of Japan’s famous scenic sites, Lake Towada. Together we we walked trail paths leading to Choshi Otaki Waterfall and fully enjoyed the serenity and peacefulness of the colorful natural forest that surrounds the lake.

I spent the last day of my Odate trip participating in a community sports event known as Undokai. There I was able to participate as a special guest and experience Undokai for the first time. The time I spent at Odate became an experience that I will forever remember.
