The San Diego Regional Japanese Speech Contest will take place on March 17, 2019 at 1:00 PM. This annual event aims to foster a deep understanding of Japan and its culture through the study of the Japanese language and by offering a place for local high school, community college, and university students to exhibit their Japanese language proficiency. Further, this event serves to connect students of the Japanese language so that they might forge bonds among themselves and encourage each other's study.

Among the judges expected to grace our panel for the 2018 contest are a vice consul at the Consul General of Japan,

head judge and SDSU professor Dr. Ryu Kitajima, high school teacher Ms. Kyoko Shoji from Los Angeles's Notre Dame High School, and a special guest, Vice Consul Tanaka from the Consulate General of Japan in LA. During the intermission, we are inviting Mr. Don Quinn, a rock musician and teacher, to sing together with the audience. It's going to be a fun time for everyone!

We will be also offering a silent auction (via email before the contest) for the audience to participate in bidding for a round trip ticket to Japan as part of fundraising. We will be ready to invite you on this page soon! For inquiries please write to sdjscc@gmail.com (attn: Mrs. Tachibana)

Parking: The library has a limited parking lot but there is street parking throughout the neighborhood –

just check for signage. For instance one side of Draper Ave is all day but the other side is only two hour parking. If you prepare enough time parking won't be a big problem. However, car-pooling is highly recommended.

About Parking, driving and the Library neighborhood: Normally during rush hours, there is

a traffic on La Jolla Parkway and Torrey Pines Road till Gerald, but it's Sunday lunch time, so it should not

be too bad. Also there are many cute dining places around the La Jolla Riford Library. The Library is old

compared to Carlsbad library which is currently under construction, but the staff members at La Jolla

library are very nice! We are sure we will have a great time!

Look for this sign (SUNDAY EXCEPTED!!!)

you can park with this sign all day! But just in case,

here is the parking in La Jolla: http://en.parkopedia.com/parking/la_jolla/

Check out the map carefully for additional possibility for parking just in case.
