Assume that LHC will be accumulating the proton-proton collision data with an instantaneous luminosity of 2 x 1033 cm-2 s-1 at the center of mass energy, √s = 13 TeV during two years from 2015 and 2016. The LHC is operational for 80 % of the time during this period. The ttbar background cross section is 825 pb in the standard model. Now you are looking for a signature of ttbar production where one of top quark decays charm (up) quark and Higgs boson decaying to bbbar. The current best limit for the branching ratio of t to ch (t to uh) is 0.46% (0.42%). H to bbbar branching fraction is 0.577 at the Higgs mass of 125.0 GeV.
Generate ttbar and t to ch (t to uh) events such that its MC statistical uncertainty is below 1% and produce simulated events with ROOT format using CMS detector configuration in Delphes.
Your main background is ttbar. Find the optimized selection so that you obtain the largest significance (use RooStats).
What is the exclusion upper limit?
