Lessons I have Learned by Thomas Jung

As a High School senior at Unionville, I have been able to open and start my life in the real world. As a full-time student, we are often gifted breaks such as winter break and even a spring break. My spring break this year was very different than the previous years. With my father living in Iowa, since November, I was able to see him over a short period of time during this spring break from April 8th through April 22nd. However, the highlight of my spring break was a trip that I took with one of my good friends up to Milroy, Pennsylvania. Which is a small town near Penn State that houses no more than a thousand people, the importance of the town is not the size of it but the location. It is located on arguably the greatest trout river in the country, Penn’s Creek. Penn’s Creek is a wide stream, in this area of Pennsylvania and the place where my friend Dan and I wanted to fish was in a very remote area of the stream that is only accessible by trail. We endeavored a long two-day hike which got us to the river on Opening Day of Northern PA for trout fishing. Not only did I use my scouting skills to help us to overcome the cold valleys we stayed in, but also to keep us motivated to go over the rugged terrain of large rocks and terribly trimmed trails. Not only were we successful in getting to our destination which was 15 miles away, but we did it with forty-pound backpacks that carried all of our gear ranging from food to clothing. After getting to our location, we took part in some of the greatest fishing I personally have ever done in one of the most beautiful places I have ever been alone in the woods.
