The April weekend this past year was a resounding success. This trip in particular always has always been a Scouting favorite, and 2017 was no disappointment. We arrived around six or seven o’clock in the evening on Friday, and immediately got to work. Much of the camp was assembled in record time and every Scout in participation was given the opportunity to relax and enjoy the nature as we prepared a cracker barrel, or evening snack, of various cheeses and crackers with sausage and the ever-demanded hot chocolate. Many Scouts turned in at an average night for us, and Friday ended successfully. We woke early on Saturday and started out the morning with a special meal. Those Scouts involved in the Cooking Merit Badge prepared the entire group a fine breakfast. In the afternoon, the troop left to go on a seven-mile hike around the luscious Laurels forest. The Harsh weather made it difficult, but in the end all Scouts returned safe, happy, and tired. The traditional “Crossing of the Bridge” was canceled due to the rain. The ceremony of transferring leadership from the 2016 team to the 2017 was a success, and many of the older leadership have bright futures in the upcoming year. The night closed with more rounds of hot chocolate and a delectable stew by the Cooking Merit Badge staff. The entire troop got up early the next morning and hit the road without any issue, and the Scouts unloaded the trailer later that same day. Overall, the trip was a complete success and a welcome sign for the success of the new leadership.
