Meet Mrs. Sturgeon

Hello! I'm Mrs. Sturgeon and I'm excited to do some science together this year!

I grew up in St. Louis, and I'm a big (I'm talking BIG) St. Louis Cardinals fan! I'm always rooting for a Red October!

I went to college at Truman State University, where I played club soccer, frequented the dining hall on taco salad night, and majored in Business Marketing and Biology. Afterwards, I earned by Master's of Education at Creighton University.

This will be my 10th year teaching. I originally student taught here at Papio South, and then I taught 7th grade science at La Vista Middle for 6 years. I coached track, basketball and cross country at the middle school level, and I'm a former girls soccer coach and current boys cross country coach here at South.

When I'm not teaching or coaching, I enjoy reliving my childhood with my toddler Catherine, running, reading, playing co-ed adult soccer, planning my next travel adventure, and pretending to complete DIY projects around my house.

One of my life goals is to explore all the National Parks - the past few summers, my husband and I have hiked and camped in 10 different parks, including Wind Cave, Badlands, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Zion, Canyonlands, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Grand Tetons and Capitol Reef. Just this past summer, we ventured North for the first time to Glacier in Montana and Banff in Canada. The spectacular views made up for the cold camping!

Through and through, I really love the opportunity to talk about science every day, but more so, to get to interact and observe high school kids - they have incredible energy and passion for life, and they inspire me every single day.
