Hegeman Coat of Arms

The following information is based on the research Jean McCullough did on the Adrian Hageman family who settled in Ohio around 1790.

This establishes the children and migration from New Jersey to Ohio by Adrian Hageman and wife Jannetje/Jane Lupardus Hageman.

The Hageman homestead in Ohio was built from 1818-1822 and was the oldest house in the village for a long time.  It was the finest house in town and stood for over 100 years.  It was built just west of Reading Road "where it crossed the New York Central Railroad  in Hagermantown. There is still a street in Sharonville called Hageman Street.  The house stood on the site until about 1940.

Planning the Town of Reading

As early as 1799, Abraham Voorhees Sr. began to divide a section of his land into lots.  These were advertised for sale in "The Western Spy and Cadet."  Voorhees began to plot the town in 1802.  On January 7, 1804 the original plat was acknowledged by the community’s first justice of the peace, Adrian Hageman.  The plat was recorded in the Hamilton County, Ohio deed book on February 2, 1804.

SHARONVILLE is situated on the Short Line railway, at the point when it crossed the east fork of Mill creek, two miles distant from the north and west lines of the township, respectively, a the southeast corner of section thirty. it is also an ancient village, having been laid out May 30, 1818, by Messrs. Josephus Myers, Simon Hagerman, Philemon Mills and Abijah Johns. It had ninety-five inhabitants in 1830, and by the last census, taken half a century, had a population of four hundred and sixty-nine. The post office, anciently Sharonville, was discontinued some time before 1840, but has since been restored under the same name.
