El viaje lo realizaron en el velero "Cesar & Helene". Este velero de madera, 2 mástiles, 32 metros y 266 toneladas, fue construido entre los años 1855/56 por la compañía J. C. Godeffroy & Sohn en la ciudad de Reiherstieg. Al mando del capitán J. P. Junge, zarparon desde Hamburgo el 31. de mayo de 1856, para llegar a Puerto Montt un 28. de septiembre del mismo año (cuatro meses de viaje). Este viaje de colonos es considerado uno de los primeros en arribar directamente a la ciudad de Puerto Montt.
