President

Samia Mohammed is a graduate student in Dr. Yusuf Hannun's Lipid Cancer Lab, pursuing a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Her research focuses on the roles of enzymes modulating the levels of bioactive sphingolipids. She is excited to be a part of the Stony Brook University Graduate Career Association and looks forward to serving the committee and her fellow graduate students.

Vice President

Lauren Prentis is a PhD student in the lab of Dr. Rob Rizzo, and is part of the Biochemistry and Structural Biology program. She also takes care of GCA's Facebook page.

Treasurer

Forrest Bowling is a second year Biochemistry and Structural Biology graduate student in Dr. Michael Airola's Lab. His research is focused on the protein structure of lipid signaling enzymes.

Secretary

Chitra Mohan is a 4th year of PhD student working under Dr. Ed Luk. Her research is focused on understanding histone dynamics during transcription. By being a part of the Graduate Career Association she hopes to help graduate students explore different career choices available to them.

Social Media Representative

Julie Bettke is a graduate student in the Molecular and Cellular Biology PhD program, working in the lab of Dr. Adrianus van der Velden. Her research is focused on understanding the early immune response to infection with the bacterial pathogen, Salmonella. Her role in GCA is to maintain GCA’s Twitter feed and to write blog posts on events GCA hosts. By being a part of GCA, she hopes to help other graduate students in discovering careers that best fit their goals and aspirations.

Website Coordinator

Alexandra Weinheimer is a graduate student in the Biochemistry and Structural Biology PhD program, working in the lab of Dr. Hyungjin Kim. She studies the protein SDE2, a newly identified genome surveillance factor implicated in the replication stress response. Her role in GCA is to maintain and update the website. She also makes the flyers.
