Choreographer: Marilyn RomeoBio: Marilyn Romeo has been teaching country dancing, line and couples dancing, for 27 years. She was the director of Pacifically County a couples competition and performance team and currently is the director and choreographer for Got Country?, an all female competition and performance dance team, which she started in 2002. Romeo was also was a couples competitor for six years. She currently teaches in the Santa Barbara Community and we'd HIGHLY recommend taking class with her. She teaches at the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation, Woody's Roundup & Creekside Bar and Grill. What Marilyn is bringing to the Festival:Marilyn's dance company Got Country? will be performing in the outdoor component of the Festival in the Amphitheater of the Paseo Nuevo Mall on June 18th at 4:30 pm. The choreography that will be performed is "Country Solo" in form which means they are dancing without partners and no dancer is being showcased alone. Their dance is described by Marilyn as being "based on the music and the words of the song." The first song is called Honky Tonk Badonkadonk by Trace Adkins and the second song is Rocky Top by the Osborne Brothers.
We are delighted to have Marilyn's work a part of the Festival.
Her work is extremely well crafted, well rehearsed, uplifting and exhilarating. SonneBlauma knows this first hand in that Got Country? rehearses out of the same studio as SonneBlauma and their rehearsals are often before ours & we get to enjoy previews of the work.
We are particularly pleased about adding a style of dance that augments the contemporary dance and physical theater being performed at Center Stage Theater. Although Marilyn's work is classified in the line dancing/country form her choreography is so deeply layered and complex structurally that it could easily be viewed as contemporary dance.
