Choreographer: Marcos DuranWebsite: youtube.com/user/justmarkieArtist Statement/Philosophy/Mission Statement:There is an inexplicable feeling of new life in every piece I set out to create. It is a reason to live. My passion for dance is realized when I am able to come to terms with further understandings of the world and human existence. When I can channel this knowledge into a performance and or choreographic work, I know that I am fulfilling my mission as a creator. Movement based work has opened up my life to new means of existence, spirituality, and myself as an artist. My work is heavily based on movement narrative. With each work, I mix abstraction with literal story. I set out to utilize and explore all means necessary in retrieving the true intention of the work. I look at a work as something that is already in existence, and it is my job to bring it to actualization. In the stages of a new performance work, I enjoy the art of staying open to all ideas and concepts. I welcome the truth of each performer I am working with, and utilize their instincts. In movement choreography, I take broad strokes and know when to insert the intricate details that add poignancy to my work. This usually lies with subtle gestures, emotional states, and the balance of relating one performer to another in movement, time, and space.
I aspire to inspire. In my work, I set out to create pockets of truth that audiences recognize as their own. I do not set out to be clever, or original. I take what is inside, and transfer it to the stage or space, in hopes that I have released an energy into the world that will bring it to a greater sense of harmony.

Description of what Marcos will be bringing to the Festival.

In this new solo I seek to take my being on a journey through emotional extremes. The human will be showcased through feats of physicality underlying dramatic character interpretation.
