Dr. Sarah Goodwin is a linguist and language assessment scientist. Her broad research interests include language and literacy acquisition and evaluation. Sarah's research has appeared in Language Testing, Assessing Writing, and Language Assessment Quarterly.
Sarah makes sure the tests that decide university admissions, class placement, and early reading support are fair, accurate, and a true reflection of what people can do. Most recently, as a Senior Language Measurement Scientist on the Duolingo English Test, she worked on task design and research and authored theoretical whitepapers. Before that, she developed English and Spanish tests for grades preK-2 as a postdoctoral researcher at Michigan State University, and coordinated English testing at Georgia State University while earning her M.A. and Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics. Sarah began her career grading writing samples at the then-University of Michigan English Language Institute.
