Since 1979, one has seen several stylistics jumps in Shobha Patki's works. Here is an artist who rarely works without a theme. There is always a sense of direction a process of study involved. Something new to look forward to. For her subject matter she has drawn from varied sources. Nature, mythology, music, dance, even the shape of an egg is enchanting enough to be put up on the canvas. Molded into a story, Shobha's canvases are devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter. In fact she makes her thoughts communicate visually in a very straightforward way, with a touch of realism. There is nothing dark, depressing or gloomy. What you see is a reflection of Shobha's optimistic view of life. She is restless. Just not content with her brush and paints. All sorts of material blend with her vision, and find their way on to her canvas, jute, plaster, cloth, aluminium, clay are some media that add dimensions to her work. Literally! Her innovation does not stop with material. It extends to its use also. Within myriad shapes and colours the spirited artist explores the essence of Indian culture in an amazing array of forms and styles. From minute decorative detailing to spontaneous stylistic compositions Shobha touches the core of art.
