Curriculum This course introduces students to living systems and how they interact with each other and the physical environment. New York State MST Standards will be applied as students think scientifically to solve problems and explore important physiological, genetic, evolutionary, and ecological processes and relationships. Inquiry-based laboratory study is an integral part of the course. The New York State Living Environment Regents serves as the final examination.
Grade Determination Your grade is determined as follows:
50% tests and quizzes
30% labs
15% workbook
5% behavior
Tests Test will be given at the conclusion of each unit of study. Advance notice will be given for upcoming tests. Tests will consist if Regents-type questions and critical thinking questions.
Quizzes Quizzes will be announced and will occur within the unit of study
Labs Participation in laboratory exercises is a requirement in all Regents level courses. Lab reports are proof that a student participated in the 1200 required minutes of lab time. Each and every lab report must be kept in a separate folder in the classroom to be eligible to take the Regents exam at the end of the year.
Homework A workbook will be given to each student and chapters will be assigned as homework to support the unit of study. Each assignment will be submitted on a Google Form through my website.
In Class You will need the following items in class everyday
3 ring notebook with current notes
2 dividers
a writing implement
Make-Ups If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to make up any work or notes that you missed
Extra Help I will be available Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 2:20pm – 2:45pm or mornings by appointment
