I will have the opportunity this month to talk about some of my favorite project during the 20-minute speakers presentation at that the Atlanta Geological Society meeting on August 30, 2011. The meeting is a Fernbank Museum. Check the AGS web site for detail. Here is the link to my bio sketch.

Since 2009 Salvino Environmental has completed more than 100 jobs mostly in the Southeast. During "free time" I have participated in the Arnold Mill Career Day (2009 to 2011) and the made presentation to the elementary students. In November 2011, I had the opportunity to speak with the High School Students at Lassiter High School in Marietta. I have also attended some amazing conferences. One in particular was at the UGA regarding the devastating effects on the Gulf Coast after the April 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion.

On October 9, 2009 Salvino Environmental Services, LLC participated inthe Arnold Mill Elementary School Career Day. I put up a Geology of Georgia display and Rob Kelly of Ecovac Services was there with a display showing Gold Panning in Georgia. There were hundreds of students from the fourth, fifth and sixth grades. Many students asked about the fossils I had on display and some of the pseudo fossil like the "petrified marshmellows" I have uploaded photographs at Career Day Arnold Mill. This year was no different but it was thrilling to see some of the students from 2009 come back to my table and visit. These children will be going to middle school next year and it was a pleasure to see that they continue to be interested in earth sciences.

The Georgia Geological Society completed its field trip to the Fall Line in Middle Georgia. More than a hundred people attended the trip. The field guide was complete with studies of Clay Belt stratigraphy, earthquakes, fossil occurances and meteor impact information. The trip was attended by students and professionals from Georgia and nearby States. The highlight of the trip, besides the clear skies and beautiful weather, was walk through an active clay mine that show cased trace fossils, a meteor ejecta horizon and the as yet not completely understood stratagraphic relationships of sand and clay formations that overlie the ever-productive Huber clay formation. I took lots of pictures and posted them at Field Trip Photos

In September 21, 2009 saw some of the worst flooding in the past few years. I had the opportunity to see Noonday Creek in Woodstock as it flooded over its bank and across Highway 92. Some of the houses and businesses near the creek were impacted by the floodwaters. Photos of the flooding are shown on Flooding in Atlanta.

On September 23 and 24 the American Institute of Professional Geologist will be hosting an Innovative Environmental Assessment and Remediation Conference. Please join us at Kennesaw State University. If you have any questions feel free to contact me or visit the Georgia Chapter web page at
