ABOUT
The mission of the Sakura Ladies Chorus is to promote multiculturalism through Japanese music in Greater Cincinnati communities. The Sakura Ladies Chorus was founded in 1998 and has been performing at local cultural events such as Artswave’s Art Sampler, the Asian Culture Fest at the Cincinnati Museum Center in Union Terminal, as well as at local colleges, schools, churches, and several functions organized by the Japan America Society of Greater Cincinnati. Our repertoire includes traditional to contemporary Japanese songs and some from countries other than Japan in translation or in the original languages.
The Sakura Ladies Chorus is led by Director Sayuri Jones, a local professional music instructor. A majority of the members are native Japanese with most of them amateur volunteers who have a passion for singing and keeping their ties to their Japanese roots.

2011.4～6 The Greater Cincinnati Japan Relief Project: Sakura Chorus planned a total of five benefit events throughout the Greater Cincinnati area for the victims of the Great East Japan earthquake and Tsunami to raise relief and recovery funds. The donations were sent to the Japanese Red Cross Society through the American Red Cross.

サクラレディースコーラスは1998年に発足し、発足時から指導に携わっているSayuri Jonesディレクターを中心に、少人数の歌好き女性メンバーで、懐かしい日本の歌を歌うことから始まりました。当時はまだ現在のようにインターネットが気軽に使える環境に無く、日本のドラマや歌番組なども手軽に外国で見ることのできなかった時代でしたから、月に何回か会って、懐かしい日本の歌を一緒に歌うことが、日本とは環境の大きく違う海外という場所で生活する女性たちには潤いになりました。当時まだ小さかったお互いの子供達も一緒に練習会場に連れてきては、アットホームな雰囲気で練習していました。
少人数の日本人女性で始まったコーラスも、結成14年を迎えた2012年には、シンシナティで開催された「2012 World Choir Games－世界合唱大会－」に出場、「フォークロア（Folklore）部門」に参加し、銀賞を受賞することができました！世界中からの合唱団が参加するこの世界的なイベントに参加できたことを私達はとても光栄に思っています。これを機に、日本の合唱団をはじめ世界中の合唱団と新たな絆が出来たことと思います。そして、2018年には結成20周年を迎え、Northen Kentucky UniversityのGreaves Concert Hallで20周年記念コンサートを開くことができました。かつてメンバーだった懐かしい顔ぶれも迎え、同窓会コンサートにもなった記念コンサートは、とても感動的なものになりました。
メンバーの中にはアメリカ永住者の方々だけではなく、滞在年数を限られた駐在家族の方々もいるため、合唱団の人数は常に変動しますが、皆さん精力的に活動しています。年齢幅も大きく様々ですが、音楽活動を通して、年齢にこだわることなく楽しい雰囲気でいつも練習しています。
