that it was easy to learn, easy to play, and easy to cheat. And don't think that it was only the punters who cheated! Another reason was that the odds were the better than one could hope for in a gambling game, because of a lack of a tremendous house advantage in a theoretically fair game. The baser sort, the sort I'm acquainted with, referred to Faro (sometimes spelled Pharo) as "bucking the tiger" because somewhere someone said that most gambling houses had a motif of a tiger on their signs or painted on their walls. For whatever reason it stuck and the tiger is forever associated with faro in the 19th century world. A similar expression in the contemporary world would be "hitting the tables".
This light-hearted website is for the benefit of the people who want to get to know more about Faro. Perhaps you're into the "Wild West" or Western Movies and saw it or heard about it. Maybe you are a history buff who read about it in books. Or you might just be one of those bored people who surf the internet endlessly searching for something new. I will try to explain everything to you as best as I can to the best of my ability. I am not an expert nor do I claim to be an authority, just an enthusiastic learner just like you. Please take some time and look around and enjoy yourself.
Yours Indeed,
Ryan O'Connell
