Bicycle rack

The RV ladder racks which hang the bike pointing down in a skinny profile was my inspiration. Mocking it up I saw my handlebars would hit the van, so it needed to be further away. My solution uses a regular receiver bike rack raised up to the height of a ladder rack. Now the ladder is usable with the bikes mounted, door opens and center receiver is available for towing. Of course I can lower the height and use it as designed which gives better visibility when used on the front receiver. I was pleasantly surprised that mounted as pictured the bike does not swing when stopping or starting so with one bike I don't have to strap it.

It looks like the front tire is on the ground. Really it is at the top of the bumper.

Most of the time we just use the Swagman XTC2. This needs no straps and is super easy. The bar that goes down on the frame ratchets down which is better than having to tighten by screwing.
