Rusmir Musić is an Operations Officer with the Climate Business Department of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector-focused member of the World Bank. Rusmir has a deep expertise in climate finance and sustainability, having worked across both climate mitigation and adaptation in several sectors, most notably in real estate.
Rusmir joined IFC in 2011 where he initially worked as Climate Strategy Officer and was part of the team that synthesized IFC’s Climate Implementation Plan, which catalyzed 4x growth in IFC’s green investments over his 5 years there. He was then the Global Business Development Lead for the EDGE Green Buildings Market Transformation Program, which has enabled over 62 million m2 of green certified real estate. Most recently, he served as Climate Anchor for IFC's Upstream network, working in cross-cutting areas such as green affordable housing and smart cities.
Rusmir hails from Bosnia and Herzegovina, which he left at age 17 - as a war refugee - for the United States. He received his BA in Chemistry from the College of the Holy Cross and his MA from Humanities and Social Thought from New York University. After working in the education sector, he received an MBA from the Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, where he was Salutatorian of his class.
Rusmir has written and presented on a variety of topics; has been published in books, journals, and on the Web; and was profiled by Business Week as one of its featured MBA student bloggers. In his spare time, he enjoys walking his Golden Retrievers Oliver and Dozer, reading books, and running an AirBnB property.
