PRTLI Award €12.49MM to the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT)

The Environmental Health Sciences Institute (EHSI) was funded on July 16, 2010 under the Programme for Research in Third-Level Institutions (PRTLI) in Ireland. The award, €12.49 million €euros, was the largest research grant in the DIT’s 120-year history.
Research Achievements (Career to Date)
2007 – 2010. Co-founder and Group Leader in Environmental Health Policy and Planning of an Irish all-Island research institute¾the Environmental Health Sciences Institute (EHSI). A consortium of partners is committed to research and policy analysis connecting health to the Irish environment on the island of Ireland. The Consortium tackling design and evaluation of environmental health interventions is comprised of the following:
Strategic partners of the EHS Institute consortium also include institutions in the USA; most prominent partners are MIT, Harvard U., the National Council for Science and the Environment, and the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA). In the United Kingdom the Consortium is working with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and CIEH- N. Ireland, both of which are professional associations prominent in Environmental Health in their countries.
2008. One of 35 national experts selected for Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) project, “Guidance for Public Health Officials on Drought Planning and Response” Atlanta: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Environmental Health (CDC/ NCEH). September.
2007-08. U.S. Fulbright Scholar, Ireland.
2005-06. Healthy Housing Reference Manual, last updated in 1975. Wrote Chapter 13, “Energy Efficiency” and edited several chapters with Prof. Joe E. Beck. Work was extensively peer-reviewed by DHHS and CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health. Hard copy & CD-ROM.
