Lab Head: Professor Chinsu Lin, Ph.D 

Dr. Lin is a certified forester. He joined the faculty of the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at National Chiayi University (NCYU), Taiwan, in February 1997, where he is currently a Professor and the Head of the Remote Sensing and Forest Biogeoscience Laboratory (RSFBioL). Dr. Lin had been served as Department Chairman during the periods 2005-2011 and 2017-2023. His research interests include multispectral and hyperspectral signal processing, image classification, forest metrics assessment, and geospatial information analysis.

Dr. Lin has published more than 170 papers in internationally or nationally peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. In which, some innovative and breakthrough techniques in biogeoscience included "Signal Restoration and Effective Chlorophyll Indicators" in Hyperspectral Remote Sensing, "Forest-Carbon-Stock Assessment Protocol" in LiDAR Remote Sensing, "3D Scenario Modelling" in Public-Participation GIS, and "Decompositional Stand Structure Analysis" in Forest Dynamics. He is currently investigating applications of remote sensing and GIS techniques for the precision management of forest ecosystems. He also makes efforts at upgrading the forest inventory accuracy as well as the exploration of species-based dynamics of pristine mixed forest by incorporating the techniques of hyperspectral and hyperspatial remote sensing, LiDAR remote sensing, GIS.

Dr. Lin is now served as an associate editor of the international journal of "Information Processing in Agriculture" and "Frontiers in Plant Science", as well as editorial board member of “Annals of Forest Research” , "Journal of Forest Planning", and  “FORMATH”. He has earned the found President of Taiwan Society of Forest Ecosystem Management (TWFEM) since June 2015 and the Standing Director of the Taiwan Group on Earth Observation (TGEO) since June 2013. He is also a member of the CSPRS Board of Directors. Dr. Lin welcomes and would appreciate fully collaborations with international students and scientists carrying out research of spatial sciences in forest ecosystem and the Earth observations.
