Vietnam Day 7
Today's Travel:
Bus: 10 kms
Boat: 20 kms
Map: Today's trip
Our first night on the train and it was a bit 'rock-and-roll' as it seemed the driver was trying to make up for a late departure. Narrow gauge railways are inherently less smooth than standard gauge but it wasn't too bad, especially after a social 'night cap' with the rest of the group.
For the railway nerds - Vietnam Railways Chinese-built D19E ' Co-Co' type diesel electric
Porters Andy and Zen help get our luggage off the tracks
We arrived at about 5:30am, and were in our hotel by just after 6am. I'm not sure what we were expecting, but it certainly wasn't this!
The magnificent view from our hotel balcony.
A quick shower and breakfast, then on a bus for a quick trip to the port for a day's boat trip around the bay to see the sights.
Cau Da port bustling with tour and ferry boats to the bay's attractions. Note the cable car that crosses to ....
... Vinpearl Land on Vinh Nguyen Island - a Disneyland-like resort complex.
First stop was the Soi Island Aquarium, partially enclosed in a concrete replica of a sailing ship.
The Lion Fish entrance - I have no idea what the cement rooster hiding under the tree to the right of the entrance has to do with aquaria...
A good collection of fish and other marine creatures.
When the sun hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that's a Moray...
Count the Stone Fish. (Sorry for the reflections but no polariser on my phone)
We continued around the bay to a spot where some went for a swim, then back passed the Vinpearl complex to a less commercial location for lunch.
Con Se Tre village and restaurant
Starving is not an option
Even the rocks here are happy
High-rise skyline at Nha Trang. The building industry is in full swing here.
Nha Trang esplanade by night
Giant Lotus(?) on the esplanade displaying the Vietnamese and Communist Party flags.
Judging by the languages we heard in the hotel and walking around the town, this would seem to be a popular place for Russian tourists.
Vietnam Day 8
Today's Travel:
Train: 500 kms overnight
Map: Today's trip
A free day to relax, get the boring but essentials like washing, etc done and then gather for a meal at a Vietnamese seafood restaurant right on the water before catching the train overnight to Da Nang.
As I said earlier, there was zero chance we'd starve on this trip!
We think some of the seafood might actually have come from the fish trap in the foreground.
