Latest update on ITU requirements for 5G

ITU has come out with updated requirements on 5G targets, among them:

• Downlink peak data rate is 20 Gbit/s. (current LTE-A: 1 Gbps)
• Minimum requirements for user plane latency is 4 ms for eMBB & 1ms for 1 ms for URLLC (URLLC with D2D for tactile Internet application, current LTE eNB is 5 ms; quite marginal)
• The requirement for bandwidth is at least 100 MHz (current LTE-A max at 20 MHz with carrier aggregation; advantage of going mmWave!)
