My main research interests focus on understanding plant biodiversity patterns at broad geographical scales and the evolution of plant habitat specialization in Amazonian forests. For this I use a combination of molecular, ecological, and remote sensing tools. My interests in conservation biology includes the identification of key ecological and evolutionary processes that generate and maintain biodiversity in the Amazon region. I have also collaborating in the development of cross-disciplinary methods for assessing the cumulative impacts of infrastructure projects, particularly hydropower projects, on biodiversity and ecosystem services in the Andes-Amazon region.
