The RHS Pep Band is an enthusiastic group of student musicians who perform mainly at boys’ and girls’ basketball games as well as other events during the winter sports season. It is a strictly-volunteer group made up of students who are members of the other RHS Bands. Many of the Pep Band members are members of the Falcon Marching Band, but all RHS Bands students are welcome to participate.
Students have a great time being a spirited band for the home basketball games, both with music and with cheers. Although students do not receive academic credit for class, they do receive points towards their band awards for regular participation in the Pep Band.
Attendance and participation expectations: Students must be enrolled in at least one other band during the first semester to be eligible to participate in Pep Band. Participation is voluntary. However, once a student commits, regular attendance is expected for the entire season. Up to 7 Points are earned toward band awards based on attendance at rehearsals and games.
Schedule: The Pep Band schedule is below. Although it is mostly intact, it is possible that we may add one or more additional performances up through mid-March. We occasionally get asked to play for school or community events during the season. Games have a short rehearsal beforehand.
Performance times: We play during the 4th quarter of the JV games and between the JV & Varsity Games. During the Varsity Games, we play during timeouts and between the 1st and 3rd Quarters. We will also play during halftime and after the game. Students will be allowed to purchase & concessions during the 3rd quarter.
Dismissal time: We stay for the entire game, which usually ends around 8:30 pm. We will usually return to the band room by 9 pm.
Instrumentation: Students play their primary marching band wind instrument—it is not intended as a venue for secondary instruments unless the student is taking professional private lessons and passes an audition with the director on the secondary instrument. The “rhythm section” is: drumline, mallet percussion, some accessories, and electric bass. Specific rhythm section instrumentation assignments will be worked out at rehearsals.
Music: current FMB folder & stands music folders.
Uniform: RHS and/or FMB shirts/hoodies & hats, blue jeans and athletic shoes.
