Mr. David A. Uhrig has been the Director of Bands at Rochester High School since 2014. He directs the Falcon Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Blue & White Jazz Bands, Pep Band, and Pit Orchestra.
Mr. Uhrig was named the 2017 Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association District XVI Teacher of the Year. He was also chosen as one of Oakland County Executive Elite 40 Under 40 for the Class of 2019.
Mr. Uhrig earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Michigan in 2003 and his teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University in 2006. He earned his Master of Music in Conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University in 2013. While at the University of Michigan, he was very active in the Michigan Marching Band, serving as a rank and line leader. He played trumpet in many concert and athletic bands and had the honor of conducting the Michigan Basketball Band on many occasions. Mr. Uhrig is also a member of the Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity.
Prior to taking the position at Rochester High School, Mr. Uhrig was the Director of Bands at Marine City High School for six years and the Whiteford Agricultural School District for one year. Mr. Uhrig was also Associate Conductor and played the Bb soprano cornet in America’s Premier 19th Century Brass Band, the Dodworth Saxhorn Band. He has also written marching band shows for the Michigan Marching Band and several high school marching bands in Michigan, Texas, New Jersey, and Virginia.
Mr. Uhrig was raised in Troy, Michigan, where he attended Troy Athens High School. While in school, he participated in the marching, concert, jazz and pep bands, symphony and pit orchestras, and was a member of the National Honor Society. Outside of school, he was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, travel soccer, and playing piano. Aside from teaching, Mr. Uhrig is an avid sports fan and loves Michigan football & basketball, and the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Pistons, and Red Wings. Mr. Uhrig and his wife Carly have been married for 14 years, and they have two sons, Raymond & Benjamin. Mr. Uhrig is proud to be a Falcon and is looking forward to another great year!
Mr. Uhrig takes an active role in working with composers to commission new music. Commissions he has worked on include the following:

"Until the Night Collapses" (Andrew David Perkins, 2018) - The piece was dedicated to the students, parents, and staff of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Parkland, Florida, to honor their bravery, humanity, and love.
"TUEBOR" (Andrew David Perkins) - concert band suite of folk songs from the Great Lakes State of Michigan.
"Horror Vacui" (Andrew David Perkins) - a piece that explores the fear of empty spaces.
"Let Me Be Frank With You" (John Mackey) - a joyful piece dedicated to composer Frank Ticheli.
"As a Falcon,"(Chris M. Bernotas) Most recently, he worked with Bernotas again to commission piece for band, choir, and orchestra specifically written for the RHS ensembles and dedicated to former principal Neil Deluca.

Ms. Michelle Latouf has been the Assistant Band Director since the 2024-2025 school year, and has been the Assistant Director of the Falcon Marching Band since the Spring 2021 season. She has been working with the band as an instructor since 2014.
Ms. Latouf earned a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Instrumental Music Education from Wayne State University in 2019. While at WSU, she performed with the Concert Band, Wind Symphony, University Orchestra, Campus Band, Warrior Marching Band, and Warrior Pep Band. She plays french horn as her primary instrument, but also performed on clarinet, tuba/sousaphone, bassoon, and trombone within those ensembles.
Ms. Latouf grew up in Rochester Hills and is a proud graduate of the Rochester High School class of 2013. While in school, she participated in the concert bands, marching band, pep band, choir, and pit orchestra. She participated in the brass chamber, woodwind chamber, and was the leader of the clarinet choir. She also played softball and threw for the track and field team.
Ms. Latouf continues to perform with the Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble and Rochester Community Concert Band. She has been a long-term substitute/interim director in Rochester, and an elementary music/band director in Roseville and Lake Orion.
