This is a list of the gigs I attended in the 80s. Where there is an exact date I still have the ticket stub from the gig. Those listed by year are ones I can remember attending but I can't vouch for the accuracy of the dates.20 December 1981. Nils Lofgren, Dominion Theatre, London.
Nils' was riding high at the time. I seem to recall that he was quite acrobatic on stage - literally, as his party-piece was a somersault.
4 March 1982. Emmylou Harris, Hammersmith Odeon, London.
Her band was called the Hot Band and it was no misnomer. Excellent show.
7 April 1982. Elkie Brooks, Hammersmith Odeon, London.
I can remember very little about this show other than that I enjoyed it.
26 April 1982. Elkie Brooks, Dominion Theatre, London.
As with the Hammersmith show I can remember very little about this gig. The ticket does not state the year, just Monday 26 April, so I arrived at the year by a process of elimination.
6 May 1982. Status Quo, Hammersmith Odeon, London.
I can recall that the entire audience stood throughout this gig from first bar to last.
20 May 1982. Blues Festival, Hammersmith Odeon, London.
The ticket states 'Blues Festival' and if memory serves me well the line-up included B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and Jimmy Witherspoon.
27 May 1982. Ry Cooder, Hammersmith Odeon, London.
A superb gig by Ry even though I was only familiar with about 30% of the songs played.
28 March 1983. Dolly Parton, Dominion Theatre, London.
I'm not really a Dolly Parton fan and went along mainly because some friends were going but I quite enjoyed it.
24 April 1983. Joni Mitchell, Wembley Arena, London.
I'd always been a big fan of Joni Mitchell and enjoyed this concert even though her glory days were behind her by this time.
4 May 1983. Santana, Royal Albert Hall, London.
Santana were a tremendous live band in those days and this concert was no exception. I can recall seeing them twice at the RAH whilst I was living in Reading in the early 80s but have only got the ticket stub for this one. Funnily enough, on each occasion they played two shows, something that bands tend not to do these days.
28 May 1983. Ray Charles, Royal Festival Hall, London.
3 June 1983. Weather Report, Hammersmith Odeon, London.
26 June 1984. Weather Report, Dominion Theatre, London.
17 July 1984. Miles Davis, Royal Festival Hall, London.
8 November 1989. The Blues Band, St George's Hall, Bradford.
1981. Bruce Springsteen, Wembley Arena, London.
1981. Jeff Beck, Hammersmith Odeon, London.
1981. Talking Heads, Hammersmith Odeon, London.
1982. Steeleye Span, The Hexagon, Reading.
1982. Bo Diddley, The Hexagon, Reading.
1983. Elkie Brooks, The Hexagon, Reading.
1983. Pat Benatar, The Hexagon, Reading.
1984. Donovan, The Hexagon, Reading.
1984. Squeeze, Top Rank, Reading.
1987. Judie Tzuke, St George's Hall, Bradford.
