1. Bryan Foden F.

He is currently pursuing a double degree in the B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Electrical Engineering at the University of Chile. His research interests include Power System economics, electricity markets, Demand Response and smart grids.


Thesis Project: Optimal allocation of Demand Response contracts in Energy and Reserve markets via Inverse Optimization and Bilevel Optimization.


2. José Ponce R.


Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Chile in 2018, now he is pursuing his MSc degree at the same university. His research interests focus on the non-variable renewable generation as a means to improve the quality of life of Chileans, through a complete decarbonization of the system.


Thesis project: The role of Geothermal Energy in the future of the Chilean Electric System.


3. Miguel Ramírez C.

He obtained the BSc. degree in Electromechanical Engineer from Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas-ESPE, Ecuador in 2015. Currently, he is pursuing the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Chile. His research interests include optimal planning and operation of power systems.

Thesis project: Optimal routing of transmission lines considering social-environmental and engineering aspects

4. Teresa Vergara V.

She is currently pursuing the B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Electrical Engineering at University of Chile. Her research interests include power systems planning, reliability, and “missing money” problem.

Thesis project: Capacity credit estimation models in low-carbon systems based on stochastic programming


5. Miguel Sánchez L.


He obtained BSc. and MSc. in the Universidad de Chile in 2018. Currently, he is pursuing the PhD. degree. His interests are focused on regulation frameworks that incentivize innovation and integration of new low-carbon technologies.


Thesis project: Regulation framework of distribution networks using model firm.

6. Alex Villamarin J.

He received the Electromechanical Engineer degree from Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas-ESPE, Ecuador in 2014 and MSc. in Electrical Engineering degree from Universidad de Chile, Chile in 2020. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidad de Chile, Chile. He worked in Transelectric, the main electricity transmission company in Ecuador. His research interests include reliability, risk, and resilience in electric power systems, planning and operation of power systems, optimization and integration of renewable energy resources.

Thesis project: Planning resilient electrical networks with considerations of cascading outage

7. Diland Castro C.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Chile in 2019. Currently pursuing his MSc degree in Electrical Engineering also in the University of Chile. His research interests include planning and operation of electric power systems, integration of renewable technologies, application of decomposing methods to solve large-scale problems in power systems and public policies applied to the energy sector.


Thesis project: Resilient planning of generation expansion using Benders Decomposition: the importance of carbon tax in the decarbonization process.

8. Claudio Carvallo

He is currently pursuing a double degree in the B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Electrical Engineering at University of Chile. His research interests include planning and operation of multi-energy systems.

9. Karin Sánchez L.


She received the BSc. degree in Engineering Sciences, Electrical mention from University of Chile in 2020. Currently, pursuing his M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering also in University of Chile. Her research interests include the power system planning, operation, decarbonization and stochastic optimization models with decomposing methods to solve large scale problems.


Thesis Project: Decarbonization models based on stochastic programming.

10. Catalina Gamboa M.

She is a MSc. and BSc. student in Electrical Engineering student at University of Chile. Her research interest include the optimal planning and operation of power systems with a big integration of renewable energy, green hydrogen and electricity markets.

Thesis project: Generation complex with power generation based on green hydrogen and solar energy.

11. Claudio Silva B.

He received the BSc. degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Chile in 2019. Currently pursuing his MSc. degree in Electrical Engineering also in the University of Chile. His research interests include power system operation, planning, and reliability.

Thesis project: Planing network investments for a more fair design in terms of reliability and affordability
