The Measurement Center
Since the first project my group worked on was completed early, I had time to work on a second, individual project. I chose to work on organizing all the measurement tools into one central area.
First, I took inventory of all the measurement devices that exist in the shop. I found tape measures, speed squares, t squares, rulers, right angle rulers, meter sticks, protractors, a 100 ft tape measure and a few other small tools.
Once I had taken inventory, I found a spot in the room that was close to the work tables but accessible at all times. I measured how much space I had to work with, and started laying out how I would store the different measurement tools.
For some tools, such as rulers and protractors, all that was needed was a nail to hang them on. The yardsticks already had a home, a pvc pipe mounted to a wall, and I moved that to the measurement center location. For each tool, I figured out the best holding system, and quickly incorporated all of these onto the single wall.
Now, all measurement devices can be found in one location and it is obvious where each tool belongs.
